USA / America, Iraq and Iran Wars in Biblical Prophecy The Book of Daniel: Modern Day Alexander / Kingdom of Greece vs. Media and Persia Results in breaking of Iran but then Devastating loss of US Superpower Hegemony

Daniel depicts in a series of visions four beasts that he claims represent the last four Kingdoms to appear on earth and something of their fates. This succession parallels the last four great ancient kingdoms that dominated the Near East in Daniel’s time and are, according to Daniel, analogous to the last kingdoms that emerge at the end of the age. That is, we are expected to identify the modern counterparts at the appropriate time. The first Kingdom in this final competitive sequence is represented by a hybrid empire of an Eagle united with a Lion whose wings are plucked off before the Lion rises on its own. This alliance or special relationship of Eagle and Lion dramatically ruptures. The “king” or ruler of the Eagle nation is called a shaggy or rough goat. In the ancient world this is of course Alexander the Great who depicted himslef on coins and momuments as a ram goat, while the eagle of Zeus represented his supreme power. This shaggy goat posesses a single notable horn, a unigoat if you will, symbolizing its unrivalled unilateral hegemonic power, that this most powerful and “great” king travels all the way from the furthest West across the face of the whole earth without touching down to the Middle East to confront first modern day Iraq or (The Medes, the Kurds) and then a little later in “fury” Iran (Persia). The outcome is first the subduing of Iraq by this Eagle nation then a little later the breaking of Iran but this also then results in the seemingly surprise breaking of the Eagle nation’s power. In the background a nation represented by a Bear is active on one side with one paw while laying in wait which is cited as the ultimate cause behind the downfall of the Great Eagle nation. In other words Iran has a big Bear buddy behind it who pawns and masters the Eagle (as well as the next two kingdoms) with a fatal trap in the Middle East.

Simply put, the question the Book of Daniel asks in this connection is: Is there a nation identifiable in the reader’s time that is represented by an Eagle which travels all the way from the West across the face of the earth without touching down first to war with Iraq then after that to Iran? One modern nation represented by an Eagle both embodies Greek philosophy par ecxcellence in its constitution and spirit as Democratia and Republica and has enjoyed unprecedented hegemonic status largely through air superiority. Our governmental architecture is Greek. In sum America, the Eagle, represents the most powerful modern day national embodiment of a deeply classical Greek ethos and form of governance. The warning is that the problem of Iran’s aggressive terroristic proxy activity for this nation is that Iran is in fact itself a proxy in a fatal trap set by a cagey Bear that will result in the breaking of the “Great” Eagle nation, the loss of its hegemony and the redistribution of global power, even as the division of Alexander’s Kingdom upon his untimely death of a feverish illness in Babylon (Baghdad, Iraq) between four generals, resulting in further competition between nation states and then at last the emergence of a new Global Order. We are not told exactly what happens that causes the Eagle’s wings to be torn off or the horn of its power to be broken, a terrible retaliatory attack on homeland?!! but according to Daniel when the Eagle has defeated Iran and seems like it has won and becomes Very Great it is itself broken apparently in that connection and the result is catastrophic for the Eagle.

Should this terrible sequnce of events unfold according to Daniel’s vision the good news is that the rest, which is the main point, is also true, namely, that we are unconditionally loved by God who rules above all kingdoms in love and are forgiven of all sins freely in his love for us in a Lamb king :)

Daniel Chapter 7

3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. 4 The first was like a Lion, and had EAGLE’S wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it. 5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a Bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh…These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.

Chapter 8 2 And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam (Iran); and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai (Karkeh). 3 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last. 4 I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great. 5 And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west over the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes. 6 And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power. 7 And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with fury against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and trampled upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand. 8 Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven. 19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be. 20 The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media (Kurds, Iraq/ Syria) and Persia (Iran). 21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king. 22 Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the (fall of the) nation, but not in his power. Chapter 10 14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. Chapter 11 2 And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia. 3 And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. 4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others besides.
